The documented chain is nine generations. The full claim is 28.
The named chain above represents nine generations we can document. The full lineage is claimed at 28 generations, much of it carried orally and not personally met by current teachers. We hold the documented chain with reverence and acknowledge the longer claim as transmitted tradition — neither overclaiming on the lineage's behalf nor burying the gap. The Huna we teach predates the teaching of Pa'ao — from before 750 A.D. — and was hidden in the chants of the Ancient Ones when the original teachings went underground.

Etua Lopes attends every March and September Huna training in Kona.
Etua studied under the tutelage of Uncle George Na'ope for over 25 years and carries on the hula traditions of his teachings. Hand-chosen by Uncle George, Etua was sent to other Hula masters to learn — 'Iolani Luahine, Lokalia Montgomery, Edith Kanaka'ole, Henry Pa. Since his uniki (graduation) to Kumu Hula, he has started his own halau focused on (keiki) children. He is the Kumu Hula of our Huna class, teaching important ancient lessons through the art of the dance.
