The foundational scholarly work mapping Huna's worldview onto the modern release methodology. Still the canonical reference for institute-trained practitioners.
Empowerment, Inc. is the parent-brand publishing house of three mind-training disciplines studied together since 1980 — Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Huna, and Mental & Emotional Release®. Forty-six years of unbroken instruction across four decades.
Every Empowerment graduate works at the intersection of three distinct methodologies. The disciplines are equal — no pillar takes precedence. They are studied together, certified separately, and rendered here as three plates of the same atlas.
The literacy of how language patterns shape thought.
Foundations, Practitioner, and Master tracks lead to an ABNLP certification recognized worldwide. NLP is taught through our flagship institute and is the literacy on which the rest of the Atlas is built.
The Hawaiian wisdom lineage on which the modern release work is grounded.
Studied in formal partnership with Aloha International, Huna is a separate certification track that traces the cultural and philosophical roots of Empowerment's emotional-release methodologies. Taught with diacritic accuracy and cultural respect.
The institute's signature protocol for releasing what holds.
MER® is Dr. Matt James's flagship contribution to the field — a structured methodology for releasing negative emotions, limiting decisions, and inner conflict. The third pillar carries the institute's most-cited published research.
The Atlas of Mind Training has been continuously stewarded across two generations. Dr. Tad James founded the institute in 1980 — the year he completed the original Time Line Therapy® methodology. I took stewardship in 2007 and have personally led every cohort since. The work has not been franchised, licensed, or watered down. What you receive here is what my father taught me, what I have refined in twenty years of practice, and what I will hand on.
The Empowerment methodology is not three separate trainings repackaged. It is a single working system that the three pillars contribute to in sequence. Read the stations left-to-right: the literacy precedes the release; the release rests on the cultural ground.
The first station is literacy in the eight presuppositions of NLP — the working assumptions a practitioner uses to read another person's language patterns. Without this literacy, the rest does not function.
The second station is a protocol for releasing the emotional and decision-level imprints that keep a person bound to an old pattern. The work is structured — never improvised — and the practitioner is certified to a documented standard.
The third station situates the work in a lineage older than 1980. Huna provides the cultural and philosophical ground on which the release work rests — the meaning-making frame the institute does not pretend to invent.
The Atlas is supported by a continuously-updated publishing program — institute-funded scholarship that documents the methodology, the lineage, and the practitioners who have carried it forward. All works are available through the Member library or as hardcover purchases.

The book that introduced Time Line Therapy® to the field. Co-authored with Wyatt Woodsmall in the early years of the institute.
The second volume in the Huna series — Dr. Matt's extension of his father's original scholarship into contemporary practice.
A condensed cross-reference for working practitioners — the three disciplines mapped together for the first time in a single volume.
All Empowerment cohorts are taught in person, with Dr. Matt James as the lead trainer. Cohort sizes cap at sixteen practitioners so the work stays deep. Below: the next three gatherings — one per pillar — with open enrollment.
What I expected from the parent institute was rigor. What I did not expect was that the three disciplines — NLP, Huna, MER® — would actually weave together at the methodology level. The Atlas is real.
Forty years of scholarship behind the methodology and you can feel it from the first morning of the first cohort. This is not a coaching program — it is an institute.
I came for MER® and left understanding that you cannot do the release work without the language literacy. Empowerment is the first place I have found that teaches the disciplines as a system.
The Huna pillar is what makes Empowerment different from every other NLP school. The Hawaiian lineage is named, sourced, and respected — not appropriated.
Beyond the live cohorts, the institute maintains a tiered membership program for practitioners and serious readers. Each tier opens a different surface of the Atlas — from public articles to bi-weekly supervision groups with the faculty.
Access the public Atlas — articles, methodology notes, free resources. No commitment.
The institute's working membership — practitioner-grade reading library, monthly office hours with Dr. Matt, and discounted cohort tuition.
For certified practitioners — supervision groups, continuing-education tracks, and ongoing access to the institute's faculty.
